The ear piercing process itself does not cause a nickel allergy. What causes a nickel allergy is the material from which some earrings are made. All earrings made of metal contain some nickel. Nickel contains both gold and silver. Iona earrings that do not contain any nickel (0% nickel content) are those made of medical plastic. We therefore recommend that you ensure that your children wear Medical Plastic earrings.

If both gold and titanium contain the same amount of nickel, then titanium is the best metal for earrings because it binds nickel better than any other metal, even gold. In other words, titanium will release less nickel compared to any other metal, which means that titanium has a very low chance of causing a nickel allergy.

An ear piercing means a wound. There are two types of wounds: uninfected wounds and infected wounds. Infected wounds should be treated with antiseptic. The wound immediately after the puncture is the infected wound. Uninfected wounds should be kept CLEAN, DRY and with adequate VENTILATION. Wash your hands thoroughly and then wash your pierced ear with liquid soap and plenty of running water, e.g. when you take a shower. Dry the wound with a clean towel or cotton swab.

It is difficult to give an accurate answer if one does not know the condition of the ear. However, we can give you some general advice: - If the infection is in the soft part of the ear, remove the earring and clean the wound with antiseptic. If the condition does not improve by the next day, see a doctor. - If the infection is in the hard part of the ear (ie in the cartilage), take off the earring, clean the wound with antiseptic and go to the doctor immediately because the cartilage infection needs urgent medical treatment. Other symptoms that need urgent medical attention are: a) redness ("redness") around the wound and b) swelling of the ear.

The thick needle has a very important advantage: there is more space, which makes it easy to change to regular earrings after the healing period. The thin needle does not leave much space and there is a greater risk of scratching the wound walls when changing earrings, which will create a new wound and increase the risk of infection.

Anyone can be allergic to any substance, even plastic materials. However, the special medical grade plastic used to make piercing earrings and regular earrings has been widely used on a daily basis in and around the human body for over 35 years. There are no reports in the medical literature of an allergy to this plastic.

If the hole is drilled in the round end, there is no risk of the drilling process. If you are thinking of piercing the cartilage of your ear, you should be aware that there is not the same "internal" protection against infection in the cartilage as there is in the lobe (the soft tissue of the ear). While there are blood vessels in the lobe, there are none in the cartilage. White blood cells and the oxygen present in red blood cells act as a defense against infection. Because there are no blood vessels in the cartilage, there is no defense mechanism against the infection. This means that if you pierce the cartilage of your ear, you will have to follow very carefully and literally the written instructions for the care of the wound which will be given to you by the specialist who will make the piercing. In case of cartilage infection,

If you turn the earrings without first washing the wound and your hands, it can cause infection. A very common misconception is that if you do not turn the earring, the skin will stick to the earring. This is not going to happen with Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing earrings.

If you pierce your earlobe, you can change the piercing earring after four weeks. If you pierce the cartilage of your ear, it will take longer for the wound to heal, so we recommend that you wait at least six weeks before removing the piercing earring. When it's time to change the earrings, you recommend taking them off immediately after showering and bathing. Do not leave the hole without an earring as it will shrink and its diameter will decrease rapidly, especially in the first year after the piercing.

When only the upper part of the earring is gilded, only the extremely skin-friendly titanium comes in direct contact with your skin and therefore there is no risk of an allergic reaction. In addition, the new European Union regulations on nickel stipulate that piercing earrings must have a nickel content of less than 0.05% and be homogeneous. This means that gilding is not allowed at any point that comes in direct contact with the body.

We are not born with a nickel allergy. Nickel allergy is a contact allergy caused by constant skin contact with nickel-containing items, such as e.g. zippers, buttons, coins and jewelry. Ear piercing is a powerful factor in increasing the number of people who are allergic to nickel. Clinical trials around the world confirm that ear piercing is a major risk factor for nickel allergy. The percentage of women who have a nickel allergy after ear piercing is 10-30%.

If you have a nickel allergy, you must first know that there is no cure. The only solution is to avoid any contact with nickel-containing metals. However, this is not always easy because all metals contain nickel (even gold and silver) mainly in the form of impurities. Consequently, there are no metal earrings that do not contain nickel. If you already have pierced ears, we recommend wearing Blomdahl Caring Earrings earrings - earrings made in collaboration with dermatologists.

There is no set age for a person to pierce their ears. If one thinks that there are countries where doctors pierce the ears of newborns, one realizes that it is not dangerous. What we recommend to you, is that an appropriate age is when the child on his own wants to wear earrings but is also able to understand the rules of hygiene. In case he is a minor, parental consent is needed.

All people can have allergies at any age. That is why we must be careful in choosing the metals we wear. To be sure of their quality. Unfortunately, the EU Nickel free regulation refers to the outflow of nickel from a metal which we can not control.

There are two types of infection that can be transmitted through ear piercing:

Bacterial infection ( bacterial infection) : Bacteria are present on non-sterile ear piercing tools and, do not forget, on the hands. If you touch your ears without first washing your hands, there is a risk of developing a bacterial infection in the piercing wounds. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics.

Virus infection (viral infection): Hepatitis B virus and AIDS virus can be transmitted through ear piercing when done with traditional tools. In these tools, the point that comes in contact with your ear has come in contact with the ears of many other people. Even if the tool is cleaned with alcohol (70% alcohol solution), the hepatitis virus can survive. The hepatitis virus can survive on the tool for more than a week even if the tool has been cleaned of blood.

In the Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing system, the front of the traditional ear piercing tool has been replaced by a sterile disposable cartridge.
